Kapalbhati Pranayam


    Kapalbhati is made of two Sanskrit words, Kapal meaning 'forehead' and Bhati meaning shining or luminious. This is because practicing Kapalbhati Pranayam on regular basis leads to shining face with inner radiance. KapalBhati is considered to be the most important pranayam.

Method - How to do KapalBhati Pranayam?

  • Sit in Padmasan or other comfortable position with straight back, eyes gentely closed and relaxed face.
  • Take in normal breath. Now Exhale forcefully, abdominal muscles will contract and stomack will go in itself. The exhalation should be forceful and quick.
  • After exhalation, inhale normally and naturally without any effort or force.
  • Repeat this cycle of forceful exhalation and normal inhalation for at least 10-15 times
  • This completes one set of Kapalbhati pranayam.
  • Starters do one set of Kapalbhati Pranayam. Number of sets and Force as well as pace of exhalation can also be increased with time.
Note :- Exhale forcefully while inhaling is normal and natural. Contraction of stomack observable. Head will not move, waist will remain still, only stomach will move.
While doing this Pranayama think that while exhaling you are throwing all the diseases and negative energy out of your body, with the air exhaled .

KapalBhati Pranayam benefits.

The benefits of Kapalbhati Pranayama are as follows:-
  • Diseases related to Kapha like asthma, respiratory troubles, allergies, sinus, etc. are cured.
  • Obesity, diabetes, flatulence, constipation, acidity and diseases pertaining to kidneys and prostate glands etc. are cured.
  • Peace and stability of mind are achieved. No negative thoughts occur. Troubles like depression are cured.
  • Blood is purified and the body gets rid of foreign objects and toxins.
  • If done regularly for five minutes daily, it relieves constipation, Blood sugar becomes normal and weight in the abdominal region reduces considerably. Blockages in the arteries are also cleared.
  • Organs in the abdominal cavity viz. stomach, pancreas, liver, spleen, intestine, prostrate and kidney function more efficiently and develop immunity towards diseases. This is the best exercise; benefits accrued by this cannot be obtained by several other asanas. It strengthens the intestines and improves digestion.
  • Helps to tone up the abdominal muscles. It is also helpful in reducing belly fat.
  • As the name suggests, practicising Kapalbhati Pranayam daily makes face lustrous and attractive.

Special Note

The following points should be taken care of for doing KapalBhati Pranayam:-
  • One must do kapalbhati Pranayam for the duration of three to five minutes every day
  • People whose glands secrete lots of bile inside the body are termed as Pitta Prakriti. They should not do this Pranayama for more than 2 minutes during summer season.
  • While doing Kapalbhati Pranayama keep both the eyes closed and mentally silent.
